Spencer Treat Clark, Andrew Sensenig, Judd Lormand, Muse Watson. I was surprised at how badly this movie sucked. Poorly conceived and poorly executed, the only thing it has going for it was the audience goodwill that it somewhat had from the first movie, and even that it squandered. I do give it two stars, because it was still mildly entertaining. I really like the guy who plays her dad, Louis Herthum. He's a good actor.

As for Ashley Bell, I can't decide if her acting is great or terrible. She does the whole shy, mousy, weird girl really well, with an emphasis on weird. At times it seems like her acting is quite good.

But then at other times it becomes cringe- inducing. But since you are never quite sure if that is intentional on her part or not, perhaps her acting is actually great? You can see my dilemma here. I'm a sucker for those.) But this movie was nothing like the first one, and that's not a good thing. One interesting thing to note is just as the first movie loosely follows the same story of The Exorcist, this sequel also parallels Exorcist 2: 1. Both movies are lame sequel cash- ins. Both have stories that go in a completely different direction as their originals, and suffer as a result. Both change the protagonist from the first movie's preacher man to the victim: a female.

The female leads of both movies are not compelling enough to carry the whole movie on its own. Both movies go off the beaten path of Christianity, venturing into Voodoo and black magic. This changes the focus from God/good vs. Satan/evil to we don't know quite what, and the story suffers as a result.

Both feature not Satan as the enemy, but demons: In one, Abalam. The other, Pazuzu. Both feature trances and telepathy. Both movies stink. I will say this about The Last Exorcism Part 2, at least the ending was unexpected. It went in a far different direction than I would have predicted. Not that this is necessarily a good thing, given what we were left with.

But you don't see unpredictability in movies too often anymore so the director scores a small amount of points for that one. Oh and just so you know, when demons drive cars, they like to play loud rock music while randomly breaking windows and catching stuff on fire as they go by. They just do it for kicks. Don't ask why - it's just part of being evil, dude.

When I was growing up I was always told that rock music is the devils music. I'm glad I finally have this movie to confirm it for me!
